Golf Tip Shaking
the Yips
TOP
The
phenomenon is called the Yips. It's what happens
to golfers when they can't make a "gimme" putt
because of a sudden tremor, jerking or freezing
up. It involves abnormal involuntary muscle movements
and can affect musicians, stenographers, dentists
and even surgeons who must perform finely controlled
movements.
Pro
golfer Bernhard Langer has used a long putter
since 1997 to combat the yips.
The
Yips is a familiar condition to most golfers.
Its almost invariably felt on the very fist
tee when every ones watching. Even if youve
just come from the practice range where you hit
30 perfectly strait ball, it can humiliate you,
making you shank your tee shot into the trees
and out of bounds. There is an effective natural
treatment!
The
Yips are especially troublesome when you have
to make a shot to impress your peers, a new client,
or your boss, and especially if you have money
on the hole. Its a golfers most dreaded
disease. Its even worse than muscle strain
or arthritis. Those are respectable diseases.
The Yips are disgraceful.
This
malady in golfers is serious. It can kill egos
and even promising pro careers. Professional golfers
Tom Watson, Vijay Singh and Bernhard Langer have
all gone on record as suffering from the Yips.
"It's
a strange thing and a terrible thing if you're
a pro golfer," Langer said. "Some guys have gone
to psychologists, and others have tried different
putters. I've had hundreds of guys, pros and amateurs,
ask me about it."
Mayo
polled more than 1,000 skilled golfers and found
that more than a quarter believed they had yips
that added an average of almost five strokes per
round - a huge handicap for a player aiming to
score in the 70s. A second phase of the study
found that players with the yips had higher heart
rates and muscle activity in their wrists than
yips-free golfers.
Langer
said that in 1997 he went to a long putter, which
he credits with keeping him in the pros. Many
golfers simply quit the game because of yips.
So it's not surprising that big-money players
such as Langer will try anything to shake the
shakes. "If it would help, I'd stand on my head," Langer
said.
Dr.
Hansen has better solution: its a combination
of herbs from Fiji, Korea and China. The combination
is aptly called Tranquil Clarity because
it has the ability to steady the nerves while
increasing focus and enhancing stamina.
