- Xanthelasmas
QUESTION:
On
my eyelids I have a yelowish color pockets, my doctor said they
were cholesterol pockets. How can i get rid of them? Betty
ANSWER:
Dear Betty,
Yellowish plaques on the eyelids are a focal collections of cholesterol
deposited in the skin known as Xanthelasmas. These are associated
with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. Treatment should be
aimed at lowering the levels of cholesterol to below 200mg/dl and
triglycerides below 130mg/dl. The Xanthelasmas can be surgically
removed for cosmetic purposes, but they may also slowly regress
if the Cholesterol and Triglycerides are lowered.
