QUESTION:
I have
atopic dermatitis and am interested in TRANQUIL CLARITY™
STRESS RELIEF. Can I be helped by the supplement? Any side-effect?
Do you have any other recommendation? Thanks.
ANSWER:
The ingredients in Kava are not known to be beneficial
for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. However, I have found
Tranquil Clarity to be very effective in my patients for the
relief of stress and anxiety. There are very few side effects,
however, high doses taken over extended periods of time are
known to cause a skin rash.
In recommended amounts, the most common side effect from kava
use is mild gastrointestinal disturbances in some people.
Kava may temporarily turn the skin yellow, according to some
case studies. If this occurs, people should discontinue kava
use. In rare cases, an allergic skin reaction, such as a rash,
may occur. Enlargement of the pupils has also been reported
after long-term use of kava.
Kava
is not recommended for use by pregnant or breast-feeding women.
It should not be taken together with other substances that
also act on the central nervous system, such as alcohol, barbiturates,
antidepressants, and anti-psychotic drugs. One study found
that large amounts of a traditional kava preparation did enhance
cognitive impairment caused by alcohol consumption. Kava has
also been reported to cause excessive sedation and grogginess
when combined with benzodiazepines. One study found it was
safe to drive after taking kava at the amounts found in 2-4
caplsues of
Tranquil Clarity.
In addition to Kava, for the treatment of stress and anxiety,
I typically test and balance the brain neurohormones including
Serotonin and Norepinephrine using 5HTP
and L-Tyrosine
respectively.
